Day 29–Sun—7/12: Hiking to and behind Moul Falls, geocaching, and kayaking, and swimming in the lake—our last day at Dutch Lake.

Today was an adventurous, exhilarating morning followed by a beautiful day on the lake all afternoon.  We drove to Moul Falls and hiked about 2 miles to get there.  They are over 100 feet tall and powerful.  The hike was through beautiful Canadian Rockies forest in a light rain.  It was a really pretty trail.  Once to the top of the falls, you go down a steep trail to the base of the falls for the best part of the hike:  Walking right BEHIND the waterfall.  The falls crash down with so much force that mist is shooting off the back rocks where you are walking behind.   It creates powerful gusts of wind and mist—my hat almost blew off.  It’s intimidating and exciting as you get sprayed and soaked walking up behind the falls to a cavern on the other side of the waterfall that was formed over the years by the waterfall cutting and carving the rock.  The kids loved finding a hidden geocache there behind the falls.  Hiking back, Sarah continued her quest to find wild berries and eat them  She’s having so much fun with that and she hit the jackpot on this trail—plenty of wild raspberries.  They were wonderful and fresh and helped the 2 mile hike back to the car fly by.  Back at the lake where we’re staying, we inflated our kayak and sent Andrea on her way.  It was the clearest day today.  The sky has been so hazy from forest fires every day since Seattle.  But the wind yesterday and rain today helped clear the sky.   It was a beautiful blue with white puffy clouds and the sun hitting the green forest.  It was really serene to see Andrea kayaking off in the distance in her yellow kayak on the calm lake with the previously described sky and mountains.  Sarah, Ryan, and I all jumped off the docks and swam then entire time until Andrea came back. Then Sam took the kayak out as Andrea swam with the kids as well.  We ate bagel pizzas at our table outside overlooking the lake and the mountains.  This is what the Canadian Rockies are about.  Now if we can just find some big animals in Canada!
