Day 28–Saturday—7/11: Wells Gray State Park, 4 waterfalls, geocaching, and hiking; swimming in the lake

Day 28–Saturday—7/11:  Wells Gray State Park, 4 waterfalls, geocaching, and hiking; swimming in the lake

Wells Gray State Park is known for its beautiful waterfalls and also the wildlife that can often be seen living there.   So off we went to explore.  The waterfalls were impressive and beautiful.  We liked the variety of falls and the power they have.  Sadly, we didn’t encounter any wildlife.  Although that was disappointing, we found many geocaches and admired the beauty of the park.  We did a 2 mile hike late in the afternoon and Andrea, Sarah and Ryan were all miserable.  It was really hot and humid and the mosquitos, flies, and wasps were terrible the entire hike.  They really liked Andrea’s and especially Sarah’s hair and were constantly buzzing around them.  We did walk around a pretty lake and saw some large trout jumping out of the water to eat flies.  We also ate wild raspberries and some other berries along the hike.  But all were happy to get back to the lake we’re staying at.

Sam, Ryan, and Sarah all swam in the lake when we got back. But within 15 minutes of being in the water, lightening and thunder was nearby so we had to get out of the water.  While drying off, we saw 2 turtles in the water.  They were cool!  The storm blew over very fast but we were done swimming.  Sam and Sarah took a short walk along the lake and saw a duck with her 6 ducklings eating amongst the lily pads.  They were so cute to watch.  Maybe we didn’t see wild animals where we expected to today, but we ended up seeing some neat animals anyway.  We cooked pork chops, broccoli and garlic bread for dinner and got in a quick load of laundry.  Then we watched the movie Groundhog Day, one of Andrea’s favorites.   Now we’re enjoying the white and gray clouds over the still lake.

Spahats Falls--this picture doesn't do this one justice.  2nd tallest in Canada.
