We went to the Mt. Hood ski area at Timberline lodge
today. When we first pulled into the
Timberline Lodge parking lot, Sam remembered that a few of the scenes of the
movie The Shining were filmed here. We rented
skis, boots and poles for Sam and then all 4 of us took the chairlift up Mt.
Hood. At the top of that chair, Andrea,
Ryan and Sarah hiked up a bit higher to a large snow chute and played in the
snow, built snowmen, and had several fierce snowball fights!
It was great—especially with the gorgeous view of the over
11,000 ft peak of Mt. Hood towering above.
Sam took the next chairlift up and skied in shorts and a t-shirt and
fleece gloves. It was great to be snow
skiing on July 3rd. The snow,
though a bit slushy, was pretty good.
All the runs were upper intermediate and advanced. Twice, Sam skied down very narrow chutes of
snow with serious rock obstacles to get to Andrea, Ryan and Sarah. Both times, he “rooster tail” sprayed them
with snow by doing a quick ski stop as they were pelting him simultaneously
with snowballs. It was so fun. It was a great half day playing and skiing in
the snow at Mt. Hood. After that, we had
an ice cream in a cute ski town on the way back to our RV park. Once there, we rode bikes and watched the
next Harry Potter movie. After grilling
Portobello mushrooms and Korean BBQ for dinner, we rode bikes over to the
volleyball court and played both badminton and then volleyball with another
family. It was a fun adventurous
day—especially the snowball fights and skiing in July!!!

So cool that you got to ski in shorts in July! Love the photos and tales of adventure on the slopes :) Your meals on this trip sound delicious, by the way!
