Day 2, Monday 6/15: Whitewater rafting and tubing—American River, Coloma,
CA
What a great day on the American River white water rafting on
class II and III rapids and tubing calmer waters behind our motorhome in the
afternoon. It was so fun whitewater
rafting ½ day—especially the class III rapids known as “the meat grinder” and
“troublemaker.” We also jumped out of
the boat into the 55-degree river during the rafting. Sam especially enjoyed being able to float
feet-first and head up through a 200 yd. portion of class II rapids. Sarah took
the brunt of the waves in the rapids and had cute screams every time it got
intense. Ryan, who always runs cold—just “manned up” and jumped off the boat
into the river twice. It was great. They both rode in the front during the
biggest rapids.
After white water rafting, we went tubing a few times. We walked up about ¼ mile up from our
campsite, then went into the river and floated past the campground downriver
and exited after about a 20-minute float.
In the evening, we then barbequed turkey burgers with sautéed mushrooms
and onions while watching and listening to the beautiful river flow by our RV
about 30 yards away. Fun, exciting, and
beautiful. We now feel like we’re on
vacation :).
