After setting the alarm early, we drove up the scenic Bow
Valley parkway in pouring rain. We saw
no animals in the rain. When we arrived
at Johnston Canyon where we planned to hike, it was raining hard and it was
pretty cold. So we aborted the hike and
drove to Vermillion Lakes. They were
pretty with off-and-on rain. We walked a
bit and enjoyed the stormy views. Later,
we drove to Banff and went to the visitor center, tourist shops and ate
lunch. While Denise, Andrea, and Sarah
had lunch, Ryan and Sam drove back to Canmore and bought a used mountain bike for
Ryan for 35 Canadian Dollars! He loves
it—especially being able to shift gears, having only hand brakes, and, most
important for him, being able to pedal backwards
J.
After picking up the girls from Banff and heading back to
our camp, the Leverings mountain biked along the beautiful singletrack trail to
see Hoodoos (stalagmite-looking rock formations) and the great views of Rundle
Mountain, Bow River and the Banff Springs Hotel off in the distance. After cooking dinner, we then took a nice
walk along the same trail with Denise to show her the beautiful scenery as well
(we don’t have 5 bikes unfortunately).
